Here we see how they lined up. The Georgians are on the right, the Timurids on the left.
However the Georgians spotted this and blocked the pass with their own heavy cavalry, brought up infantry to take the hill, and tried to use cavalry to flush the Timurid psiloi out of the woods.
In the clash of cavalry in the pass (below) the Georgians came off best. The Timurid archers could not join in as they were being attacked by the Georgian foot.
Seeing the victory slipping from his grasp the Timurid commander used all his pips to allow some Turcoman light horse to do what they do naturally - attack the Georgian camp. The Georgian general here made a crucial error, rushing an element of light horse into the camp to defend it, elbowing the camp followers out of the way. When the Turcomans beat the Georgian light horse by one, the loss of the element and the camp at once made the score four three to the Timurids and an ill-deserved win went to them.
