DBA - Caledonians v Scots-Irish

Another very exciting game against Mr G- P-, who supplied all the figures. It was a thirty-six element a side game, a home game for the Caledones, and extremely close.

The sides were:
II 54 Scots - Irish
3 x LCh general, 6 x LCh, 21 x 3Ax, 6 x 2Ps

II 60 Caledonians
1 x LCh general, 2 x 3Wb general, 6 x LCh, 24 x 3Wb, 3 x 2Ps

Below we see the set up at the start.

At the top are the Caledonians, with all the chariots on their right led by the commander-in-chief, a large block of warband in the centre, and a smaller group of warband and all the skirmishers (psiloi) on their left.

At the bottom are the Scots-Irish, whose commander-in-chief is in the centre and who have spread the chariots amongst the three commands.

Above are some of the Caledonian warbands whose general foolishly got lost in a wood.

Above - This is the situation as the lines advanced to contact - the Scots cunningly hold back their centre so that the Caledones have to do all the work, losing formation as they advance.

Above - The crucial clash on the Caledonian right. This is where it all went Pete Tong. The chariots piled in and drove the enemy back. The Caledonian infantry came up in support and moved off toward the right of the picture to plug a developing gap. At this point the Caledonian general, in the chariot with the grey horses in the middle of the formation, was pushed back - into some infantry who were facing sort of forty-five degrees to his base, and was consequently destroyed. Game over. A schoolboy error by the Caledonian chieftain (me).
